Praxis
Genre:
Alternative Metal, Experimental Metal, Avant-Garde, Alternative Hip Hop
This is
album was recorded in Warsaw, Poland; this Praxis production is really intriguing
and pact with a ton of musical surprises. It’s a great way to enter the world
of experimental music; it’s a freaking rewarding experience, trust me.
Vocals
and Lyrics: No singer.
Instrumentation:
Guitar:
Being such a relevant guitar player and member of the band, Buckethead appears for
first time in the album near its halfway point, that’s crazy. When he enters
this album becomes a jaw dropping experience.
Bass:
Bill Laswell’s bass playing is fantastic, but what is incredible is his palette
of effects. His bass playing with these heavy pedal FX gel the abstract jamming
together to make these guys sound like a band.
Drums:
Brain's drumming is always top notch.
DJ: You
got 2 DJs on this album Mix Master Mike (Beastie Boys) and phonosycographDISK. They do an
incredible job, they take DJing to another level, and they put to shame any commercial
DJ out there. I have a hard time thinking DJs as musicians, but these guys prove me
wrong. 8.6
Melody
and Structure: It’s an extended jam and improve played masterfully, Melody is brought
in occasionally by Buckethead, and it’s like breath of fresh air in the craziness.
10
Sound, Production and Feeling: The sound is a basic sound for a live
album, what’s great is how they administrate moods, feeling and anticipation; and
everything blows up when Buckethead starts playing. 8
Songs:
It’s an extended jam between to Djs and the band that drops in out, it’s a real
odyssey. There is no typical song structure in this album, you have to sit down
and go for the ride. 5
The Bad:
Nothing
Originality:
This album shows how you can fuse DJs and rock/metal and take it to another
level that I’ve never heard on any other album. 10
Overall: 41.6
