Profanation:
Preparation for the Coming Darkness (2011)
Alternative
Metal, Experimental Rock, Alternative Hip Hop
This
is probably Praxis’s most upfront album; it’s based on songs more than jams and/or
crazy experimentation. It’s a perfect introduction album to the world of Praxis
and friends.
Vocals
and Lyrics: Praxis never really had a singer it’s mostly been an instrumental
band, in this album shows a big change because almost every song has a vocalist,
they have a few friends drop-in and do the honors; you got Mike Patton, Serj Tankian,
Killah Priest and some others guys. But the guest vocalist that steals the show
is Iggy Pop, the Furies is the best track off this album, and I must add if I ever
have a band again this song would be on the set list. 8
Instrumentation:
Guitar:
Buckethead’s guitar work is really good but far from his best, he sounds pretty
uninspired compared to other praxis albums.
Bass:
Bill Laswell is the mastermind behind this band; his bass playing fits the
songs just fine but he doesn’t shine too much.
Drums:
Brain drumming is just superb.
Extended
Band: Bernie Worrell the grand master of the Fukadelic keyboards and plays on a
few tracks, but he’s really under used, a guy of his caliber should really be strutting
his stuff but he doesn’t do anything to interesting. There are two Dj’s that play
on this album, PhonosycographDISK
and Grandmixer DXT, but there work is like nothing like masterpiece that Mix Master Mike
did on Warszawa. 7.9
Melody
and Structure: The songs have a basic pop structure, which for this band is
some what a surprise. 7
Sound,
Production and Feeling: Some glitchy production details keeping thing sounding
pretty cool. 8
Song:
Every song on this album is enjoyable, and as I said before the Furies is the best
track off this production. 12
The
bad: It needs some craziness -1
Originality:
For an experimental band they don’t experiment too much at all. 7
Overall:
48.9
