Today I bring you guys the review of Slipknot's complete discography I
decided to bunch all my old post together so the reader can appreciate the evolution
of the band over the years. Before I sat down to write this introduction I
thought to myself¿ why I do I think this band is so cool? and I concluded that
I'm a super nerd I love comic books and I have a soft spot for Villains they
always seem cooler than the heroes and these guys esthetically look like a band of Super Villains
that are trying to take over the world with Hell music (jajajaja), imagen the
Masters of Evil or the Red Lantern Corps playing super heavy Metal that would
be awesome. So here we go with my reviews, please enjoy and which album is your

I remember the first time I heard this album; I was 18 years old back in 1999. I was walking with a friend of mine here in down town Cordoba; Argentina, this friend had acquired the latest issue of a famous rock magazine and there was an article about this band, we went strait to the local record store, the thing was that there was only one copy had arrived there. The owner put it on for us to listen. I was blown away but I acted like I didn’t like it. So I told my friend that I had to go, and he told me the same, the thing I went run around the block to go back to the store and get the only copy of this album, and I found to my shock, my friend did the same thing but got there first. It took me 2 months to get it, there was no such thing for digital download, and you had to get the album.
So here’s my brief Review of one of those milestone albums.
Vocals and Lyrics: Here’s Corey Taylor at his rawest and most unfiltered,
this guy is angry about something and he’s freaking intense and its the album with the most rapping the band sheds this aspect froms its style over the years.10
Instrumentation:
Guitars: Killer Riffs, Jim Root and Mick Thomson, lay the ground work
for what was to become Slipknots trademark style.
Bass: Paul Grey has some nice arrangements in this album, he does a
great job.
Drums: Joey’s drumming is a constant onslaught, adding to the crazy
amount of energy on each track.
DJ and extended band: These guys help differentiate the band from any
other super heavy band. 7
Melody and Structure: Most songs have a nice structure to them, they’re
not predictable. There’re a few moments where there is melody, it’s like the
eye of the storm type of thing, and then you’re sucked back in for the rest of the attack.9
Sound, Production and Feeling: This isn’t the heaviest album in
slipknots catalogue but it’s probably the most violent its exploding with energy
and Ross Robinson harnesses all of this perfectly.9
Songs: They are all slipknot classics. 14
The Bad: Nothing
Originality: Slipknot created a totally new sound and Style, on their
first album, something that for most bands takes years to do.10

I
really anticipated Iowa when it came out, I remember my dad brought it as a
gift from one of his trips to the US. I was the first person in my group of
metal head friends to even to have the album. You got to remember there was
very little digital download here in Argentina back then you had to wait from
the album to be finally released here. For some reason I was really disappointed
with the album, I expected much more. 12 years latter I learned to love and appreciate
this album. The CD booklet was super cool too.
Vocals
and Lyrics: Corey executes an impeccable display of is unfiltered rage. 8
Instrumentation:
Guitars:
They do pretty much the same good job as there last album.
Bass: Paul
Grey has a couple of really good bass lines, it’s one of the only albums were
he really stands out on some of the tracks.
Drums:
Joey also gets to stand out in this album; it’s really drum driven masterpiece.
DJ and
extended band: I expected more from these guys they really stay on the side
lines, they are less integrated. 7.1
Melody
and Structure: As usual the emphasis is on structure, especial as vehicle of their
sonic attack.8
Sound,
Production and Feeling: Here’s the big letdown for me it’s mixed as a stander
heavy album, the DJ and the extended band are the big losers. 9
Songs:
They don’t break new ground with this album, they concentrate in fine-tuning
there heavy side. 12
The Bad:
I hate My Plague, it’s a Wait and Bleed, Sic and Eyeless mash up rip-off.-1
Originality:
They set out to make a brutal album, probably to get some real respect from the
metal world, by shedding little by little there nu metal and rap Metal origins.

Ok this is my brief review of one of my favorite Slipknot albums of all
time, we have a band that is maturing in their song writing taking things to a new level of awesomeness.
Vocals and Lyrics: Corey Taylor
really shows he’s grown in this album, his vocal work is impeccable. I think
there are few guys that can match his versatility, he tries all kinds of stuff
on this album and he hits nails it each time.10
Instrumentation:
Guitars: As a pleasant surprise there is some pretty good guitar
shredding that fit perfectly, thank god finally a band that comes from the new
metal pack that starts playing solos. The Riffs are on standard Slipknot level.
Bass: Paul Grey does have some nice arrangements, but he goes largely
unnoticed on most of the album.
Drums: Joey is his normal hyper active self, actual he’s a little less
dominant on this album than others.
DJ and Others: In this album the extended band really shines, they try a
lot of cool stuff. 7.3
Melody and Structure: Till the date of this post, this is the only Slipknot
album with acoustic songs and they’re real good, they establish nice contrast
with rest of the album and add to the darkness. The song structures are well
made and keep things interesting.10
Sound, Production and Feeling: My hats off to Rick Rubin he unleashes
the bands potential like no other producer can, even though from what I’ve read
thing didn’t run very well between him and the band. 9.3
Songs: Every song is great, no fillers. 14
The Bad: nothing
Originality: Man you can see a band really pushing themselves, with
great results. 10

guys this is my brief review of this incredible live Slipknot album, enjoy.
Vocals:
Corey shows off why besides the fact that he’s a great lead singer he goes to
great lengths in making contact with their fans, he chats with the crowd most
of the time between songs. You can also hear the backing vocals from Chris and
Shawn, which add a lot to the songs, they should be used more this way on the
albums. 9
Instrumentation:
Guitars
and Bass: They stick to mostly what’s on the album.
Drum:
Hey it’s the Joey show, he struts his stuff on this album.
DJ and
Extended band: It’s easier to distinguish who is who on this album and who does
what, the band sound richer this way. 7.8
Melody
and Structure: No changes from the album versions. 8
Sound,
Production and Feeling: This album captures perfectly there energy in a live
show. 10
Songs:
They are all classic songs off their catalogue. They are very well executed, I
can’t find a mistake or any sloppiness in there playing. The creepy and slower
songs are the best and Purity is the best song off this double album. 15
The
Bad: They don’t try to do anything new with their songs; they are very similar
to their album versions. And I know they are no chances of them jamming or
anything like that, they are not that type of band. -2
Originality:
It’s a great album, nuff said. And if you can go see these guys live it’s guaranteed
to be a great experience they put a lot of effort into their live shows. 8

This album shows a band
that wants to play it safe going back to what they do best.
Vocals and Lyrics: Corey
does a good job but nothing exceptional. 7.5
Guitars: There’s some
really nice guitar work on this album.
Bass: Paul`s bass is
completely lost in the mix.
Drums: Joey’s drums are
the fundament motor to the band, he keeps things interesting.
Dj and Extended Band:
There participation is much more limited compared to the last album. 7.1
Melody and Structure: There
is much more inclination for structure and riffs over melody.8
Sound, Production and
Feeling: This is a heavy album and that’s it.
Songs: There are some
really good songs but the album has a few duds, at moments the band sound
pretty uninspired.8.75
The Bad: A few songs
could be considered fillers.-1
Originality: This Album
treads to close to Iowa, it’s almost a remake. This doesn’t mean that it’s bad;
it’s just that I like to see a progression in any artist work. 6

.5 The Grey Chapter (2014)

So I’m
revisiting and updating my review of this stunning album, ever since I’ve got
my hands on this production back in October of 2014, it has been on my playlist
ever since. I listen to it completely at least once a week and it literally
helped me retain my sanity, you see when I had to go to work for a month to
Paso de los Libres, which is a small city of Argentina that is really out in
the bunys near Brazil. I found myself confronting a major problem for a music
lover, horrible music all over the place. The thing is that they listen to the
worst music you could image Cumbia, Cumbia Villera and Pagode, and it’s on 24/7
and they play it loud, I literally would wake up to this crap, listen it a work
and tolerate it everywhere I would go (and I mean everywhere), the Grey Chapter
was the only heavy album that I had in my I Pad (I forgot to upload more heavy
stuff), this metal injection keep from going totally crazy, jajajajaja.
So here I present to you guys my humble review of this heavy metal
masterpiece, enjoy.
Vocals and Lyrics: Corey’s vocal delivery is always top notch, what
changes a little bit are some of the lyrics; he gets pretty personal about Paul
Grey’s death. Corey does a great job insuring that the listener gets the message
that this is a tribute and a goodbye to a friend. 10
Instrumentation:
Guitars: Here’s the only let down on this album, I expected more in the
solo department, but at least the riffs are great.
Bass: Man was I surprised, to hear the bass pretty up front and has a solo,
I was sure they were going to hide the guy in the mix like Metallica. The guy
that plays the bass does a great job and has some nice arrangements.
Drums: Ok Joey is gone, the new drummer plays at his same level, but he
leaves some room especially for the extended band to do their thing.
Extended band: Craig and Sid, are very present on the album, sample and
keyboards play a major role in this production, and give this album an
industrial feel at moments. Now Chris and Shawn who play percussion also have
participation on this album, they didn’t get lost under the drummers onslaught.

Melody and Structure: In this aspect this album is more like Subliminal Verses, where the band can show there versatility chugging of apolitical riffs
or pulling one of those dark ballad type songs.10
Sound, Production and Feeling: The album sounds great, and there are
some impressive production arrangements, it keeps things really interesting.
Now the album goes from full on onslaught to dark and creepy, on a few occasions,
it has a real sinister feeling at moments and some bery heart felt moments on the other hand. 10
Song: The ripper songs (the heavy high tempo ones) are basic Slipknot,
the slower one are freaking interesting. The day Slipknot teams up with early
90`s Trent Reznor you’ll get the definitive Slipknot album. 13
The Bad: Nothing
Originality: You can see a band willing to push themselves and taking
risks, making a fantastic album. 10
